The Greenlight Groove: ‘Ian’s Eyes’, ‘Substream’, ‘The Living Dungeon’ and More

September 28th, 2014 Wraithkal Feature

It’s a fact that many Steam users don’t check or even notice most Greenlight additions. There are simply too many, making it rather time-consuming. Hoping to alleviate this problem somewhat, I bring you The Greenlight Groove, featuring my recommendations from the past week!

Keep in mind that those listed below are by no means the only new arrivals, simply those I gave my ‘yes’ vote. With that in mind, would you kindly help make sure none end up as a potential Stuck In Greenlight Limbo candidate, by voting? Oh and do provide their creators with feedback. I’m sure they’ll appreciate anything, as long as it’s expressed properly (please, be nice).

Pixel Rift

Pixel Rift (@PixelRiftgame)
A game within a game, Pixel Rift is original, fun and full of surprises that will keep you guessing along the way. You will venture from living rooms to classrooms, playing consoles, handhelds and even arcade machine as you fight the mundane distractions of life so that you can get down to what’s most important – gaming! From the black and white 2D sprites of the 70s to the bright and colourful 3D graphics of the 90s, Pixel Rift truly is a nostalgic and mad trip down memory lane.

That Which Sleeps

That Which Sleeps (@KingDinoGames)
That Which Sleeps is a turn based strategy game in which the player takes on the role of an awakened evil from the world’s past and must manipulate a living, reactive world from the shadows using a cast of unique corrupted Agents. The player must balance an aggressive approach utilizing his considerable power and eager hordes with the need to remain unknown to the Champions and Heroes of the world. Corrupt, conquer, charm, and manipulate – with a fully realized world driven by thematic AIs that follow their own interests you can pursue multiple paths to victory.

A Camp in the woods

A Camp in the woods
You and your girlfiend, Lindsay, were on your way to France to celebrate Christmas with your family. For mysterious reasons, your ship started to sink! The two of you managed to get on a lifeboat and drift to a small island. It’s almost Christmas and snow is everywhere. Looking for a place to pass the night, you come across an abandoned house. This is where the story begins…

Substream (GL)

Substream (@_benbradley)
Substream is designed to respond not just to the rhythm and intensity of music, but its melodies, moods and themes too. The game’s environments are fully dynamic, morphing and animating constantly. Enemy attacks and game events are often synchronized with individual instruments in the soundtrack.

Adventures of Bertram Fiddle

Adventures of Bertram Fiddle
It is an intriguing, dark humoured murder mystery full of intrigue, dark humour, murder and mystery. You must help Bertram Fiddle, leading Victorian Explorator, on his quest to uncover the identity of London’s most elusive serial killer, known only as Geoff the Murderer.

Ian's Eyes

Ian’s Eyes (@IansEyesGame)
First days at school are usually tough, but they can be even tougher if your best friend is a blind 8-year-old boy who doesn’t know the terrifying dangers that lurk around in every hallway. Could you help him escape alive? Use your bark to distract the enemy and look for safe places to hide Ian out, but don’t let him alone too much – he could run away driven by panic! Your survival is the only way to discover the hidden secret between the walls of the Blue Norholm Primary School…

The Living Dungeon

The Living Dungeon
There are no To Hit Rolls, AC bonuses, or saving rolls. You roll choices. You then have 2 tense minutes of deciding what to do with those choices. Your friends won’t help you make those choices. They will trick you and lead you to your doom. Trust us. We’ve played the physical board game of this with friends for 3 years, and it’s more backstabbingly awesome than some Japanese honeybee’s cooking a giant hornet (you’ll have to look that one up)

Go To Bed: Survive The Night

Go To Bed: Survive The Night (@TouchfightGames)
A slithering, creeping evil lurks just beyond safety of the light. Indeed, the King of Shadows is up to no good this night, and his beastly minions are getting hungrier by the second. You had better get clicking if you want to live! Can you survive until dawn in this whimsical and spooky nightmare outing?

Unearthing Colossal

Unearthing Colossal
Unearthing Colossal is a 2D pixel physics brawler with physics puzzles, bosses, and unique weapons. Follow the story of an ancient myth that haunts these lands. Against his fathers wishes, one man takes it upon himself to delve beneath the surface and prove it all wrong, but what will he find?

Crudelis

Crudelis (@whiskeyjackg)
Usually we don’t think about it, because we have ample of time. But not Henry Shackelton. These are the last 60 minutes of his life and what he will accomplish depends only on you. Will you try to track down the conspirators lurking on your life? Or will you follow the woman with whom you have spent all your life until the fate has brutally separated you? Or you can just devote yourself to drunkenness, sacrificing your last moments for a rakish revelry?

Fortune's Tavern - The Fantasy Tavern Sim!

Fortune’s Tavern – The Fantasy Tavern Sim! (@fortunestavern)
Fortune’s Tavern is a real-time, fantasy, tavern-simulator where you take on the role of Mathias Gambridge, the latest in a long line of owners of the notorious tavern. It’s your job to rebuild and renovate the ailing tavern against the backdrop of a fantasy world at war. However, turning a profit in troubled times is never easy: what with bandit raids, hauntings, infestations, prowling hordes of zombies, and tavern guests from opposing factions who want nothing better than to kill each other.

The Purring Quest

The Purring Quest
The Purring Quest is a stealthy platform game where you will meet Kimchi the cat on a journey to find his ill owner.

Wraithkal

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
