For most, weekends means two days off work with some much-needed R&R. But for game developers, it’s also a time during which they get to show off what they’ve been working on. I am of course referring to Screenshot Saturday, which involves tweeting screenshots with the #ScreenshotSaturday hashtag. Screenshots which I will be critiquing some of every single Tuesday, in Speculating Screenshots.
Different screenshots from different developers, all working on different games. Some are very much a WIP, while other are from titles rapidly approaching release. These tweets do all have one thing they in common though, which is that they feature actual screenshots (or at the very least, mockups), animated or stills. So without further ado…

Man, those two are so dead, and they don’t even know it. Unless that *wink wink* means something else?

Oho, cyberpunk! One of my favorite genres when it comes to adventure games for sure, although I definitely wouldn’t wanna live in what’s portrayed here, even if the game does look stylish. So old-school too…

This proves it: beer makes not only the world, but the entire universe go round! That and pixel art; the two go hand-in-hand, after all.

Noah’s Ark: Chicken Edition! What? That could be it, if not for the fact that the name on this particular ship is in fact… Harmony. Yeah. Harmony. More like, irony?
Dungeons may be dangerous, but at least you can find cookies in them. #screenshotsaturday #indiegame #indiedev pic.twitter.com/3heAnBt7lm

Not gonna lie: I’d play a lot more dungeoncrawlers, roguelikes and such, if they had cookies. Who’s with me?
You should try this! Lamp Eyes http://t.co/hLY7wUQvjI #gamedev #screenshotsaturday pic.twitter.com/bJsyxFmOTv

Lamp Eyes (@LampInteractive)
Well alright, cookies or lamp eyes. Especially if they look like that, and allow me to see in the dark – WITHOUT side effects. None of that nonsense, ya hear?

But can he handle the truth? That is the question. Also, go for the email – never anything important in journals anymore. Not in this day and age.
Playing around in Unity after that Roguelike tutorial. Not sure what direction I'll take it in. #screenshotsaturday pic.twitter.com/ihEtRTM0Js
