Approximately ten years ago, back when Xbox Live Indie Games (XBLIG) was still a thing, Heydeck Games released a gem of an indie game by the name of Smooth Operators (remember?). Not long after it was ported to PC as Smooth Operators: Call Center Chaos, but I doubt you’re here for a history lesson, and besides, Smooth Operators 2 is out! So, does the sequel feature more… call center chaos?
Well, even without having taken Smooth Operators 2 for a spin myself, I can say with some degree of certainty that, yes, it does. I mean, according to the description, you’ll once again be building and maintaining your very own customer service company. A simulation that might look slightly daunting at first glance, but really isn’t, courtesy of NLP/AI-driven chat functionality with Jill, who’s more than happy to take on the role of your guide as you attempt to balance the books, manage your employees, and oh so many other things as your building grows ever higher.
What type of CEO will you be?
A happy employee is a good employee, after all, and individuals are just that – so careful management of workload, hours, and so on, is going to be absolutely vital if your company is to thrive in this competitive world. Ah, perhaps you can help move things along a bit easier with the right kind of research? And don’t forget to keep elevators and other means of rapid transportation running, because again, a happy employee is a good employee, and no one likes waiting around when they need to be somewhere ASAP; even less so for someone working customer support.
Because let’s face it, customers in need of help are not the most patient lot. That’s just how humans are, and I have a feeling this is also the case in Smooth Operators 2. Think you have what it takes to make everything run… well, smoothly?
Smooth Operators 2 is currently available on Steam, for $16.99. Switch and Xbox? TBC.
