Return of the Minicube64! Well, not like it went anywhere, but it has been a while since the first Minicubejam (remember?), and… now it’s back! Better than ever! Maybe? Anyway, the jam has already begun, so here’s what’s what.
So, in case you’re pondering just what the deal is with that whole ’64th dimension’ bit in the title, well, that was simply me trying (and failing) to be clever: the Minicube64, as its name indicates, is all about the number 64. As in, 64×64 resolution, 64 colors, and games projects are limited to a 64K ROM. Madness, in the lord’s year 2022? Eh, maybe, but remember that we are after all dealing with a fantasy console here, not an impossible-to-get-anyway Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. Besides, sometimes it can be fun to work under extreme (technical) restrictions, ya know?
“Projects”? Ah yes, you see, to quote the MINICUBEJam02 page: “make something cool— a demo effect, even a game—for Minicube64”. Strictly speaking, it is a game jam, but eh, let’s stretch that definition a bit, just this once. And for the third iteration of the Minicubejam. And fourth. And so on.
So if you wanted to make a game on a new system that is like the NES, Atari 26OO or C64 maybe this is for you !
Anyway, MINICUBEJam02 will be wrapping up on January 31st, so be sure to submit your creation by then. Whatever form it may take. Sky’s the limit, provided you are able to reach the sky with 64 clouds or less.
