Get Cozy by the Fire: ‘Winter Visual Novel Jam 2022’ is Around the Corner

Winter is upon us. Well, if you live in the northern hemisphere, that is. But even if it’s currently summer in your neck of the woods, Winter Visual Novel Jam 2022 is still right around the corner, and much like last year, it’s going to be a super chill game jam.

Let’s see… what else hasn’t changed this time around? Ah yes, the theme is, once again, ‘winter’. Interpret that however you like, there’ll be no judging or ranking or other similar competitive business for this particular jam. Just a lot of people making visual novels (or at the very least, story-focused games). Depictions of sex or gore? Nope. Still not allowed, although I believe that’s also the only big no-no.

No matter if your story is about cozy times in front of a fireplace, spending time with loved ones over winter holidays, or adapting classic winter-themed tales, all are welcome here.

What, solo? Group effort? Why not both? Project still very much a WIP by the time the deadline comes stomping through those snow-filled woods? Not a problem – submit it anyway! Oh, and for feedback as well as – hopefully – a generally good time, be sure to stop by the DevTalk Discord server.

Dates? Ah yes, dates! From December 1st, 2021 to January, 1st 2022. There. Job done.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
