Like so many other supernatural tales, Where the Heart Leads also began on a stormy night, its protagonist making a bit of a leap of faith to save their curious Golden Retriever… suddenly, somehow, finding themselves in a strange world, now equipped with the power to rewrite their entire past. What could possibly go wrong?
Everything, I’d wager, although seeing how this is a video game – well, what actually happens is entirely up to the player. So if something goes wrong, you only have yourself to blame, while deciding on the ideal (new) past for Whit Anderson, the protagonist. Hundreds of story-shaping dilemmas await, leading to one of the dozens of different endings. Choose carefully, because while you can close the game after the credits roll, Whit Anderson is forced to live with each choice, each consequence. All of it. No matter the outcome.
Shape the life of family man Whit Anderson as he tumbles through time and witnesses the most important moments of his life. With the chance to do it all over again, what would you change?
But while that’s all undeniably groovy, it does also describe a game that’s been out for almost six months. So why cover it now? What happened? Well… yeah, okay, you’ve read the title (I’d like to think so, anyway), so you know what’s what: Where the Heart Leads is leaving console exclusivity and heading for PC! It won’t be a simple port either with the most basic of features either, as volumetric fog/lighting will be joined by a slew of visual settings to further customize the experience. Oh, how about some “expanded lore collectibles”, accessibility options like color-blindness and font size scaling too? Sounds like there’s plenty to be excited about, once this small-town adventure makes the leap from console to PC. Plenty!
Where the Heart Leads, currently on PlayStation 4, will also be on Steam and Epic Games Store, in 2022.
