The Greenlight Groove: ‘Velocibox’, ‘Soft Body’ and More

July 27th, 2014 Wraithkal Feature

It’s a fact that many Steam users don’t check or even notice most Greenlight additions. There are simply too many, making it rather time-consuming. Hoping to alleviate this problem somewhat, I bring you The Greenlight Groove, featuring my recommendations from the past week!

Keep in mind that those listed below are by no means the only new arrivals, simply those I gave my ‘yes’ vote. With that in mind, would you kindly help make sure none end up as a potential Stuck In Greenlight Limbo candidate, by voting? Oh and do provide their creators with feedback. I’m sure they’ll appreciate anything, as long as it’s expressed properly (please, be nice).

Soft Body

Soft Body (@godzekesatan)
Inspired by the simplicity of twin-stick shooters, every aspect of the game highlights the fluid motion and control of the player’s snake-like avatars, the Soft Body and the Ghost Body. Players can control these two similar characters at the same time. This challenging mechanic not only creates a high skill ceiling but also provides the unique experience of learning how to split one’s mind (like singing and playing an instrument at the same time).

Tronix Defender

Tronix Defender
Tronix Defender is a retro-styled arcade, tower-defence game where you must protect your computer core from attack by hacker-bots and trojans and has Randomised Levels for ultimate replayability!

K.O.L.M.

K.O.L.M.
K.O.L.M. is a story driven platformer with heavy emphasis on exploration and upgrading your little robot to reach new as well as previously unreachable areas. The story focuses mainly on the turbulent relationship between the main character, Robbie, and his demanding and cruel Mother figure.

Transform your keyboard into a guitar and rock out to the melody of catchy chiptunes! Aim for perfection and fight for a place in the competitive online leaderboards!

Airships: Conquer the Skies

Airships: Conquer the Skies (@zarkonnen_com)
Ships are put together out of modules, and the layout of modules matters a great deal: everything on board is done by individual airsailors who need to run around, ferrying coal, ammunition, water and repair tools – and sometimes their fallen comrades. You can command fleets of airships both against other players across the Internet and in single-player strategic mode, where you use your fleet to conquer city after city, unlocking new modules and bonuses with each of them.

Velocibox alpha 1.0.3

Velocibox (@shawnbecktp)
Velocibox is a fast-paced, twitch-heavy action game with mind-bending flips and spins that’s sure to challenge and frustrate even the most seasoned gamers. The game features 9 meticulously crafted levels designed to test your reflexes and your adrenaline pumping at an insane level.

The Ingenious Machine: New and Improved Edition

The Ingenious Machine: New and Improved Edition (@Sc0ttGames)
The player is presented with a series of light bulbs, and occasionally some obstacles. The goal of each level is to switch on the light bulbs by creating an elaborate machine out of a pre-defined array of gadgets. The gadgets range from sensible items (such as fans, magnets and conveyor belts) to more extreme items (such as flame-throwers, dynamite and lasers).

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
