For most, weekends means two days off work with some much-needed R&R. But for game developers, it’s also a time during which they get to show off what they’ve been working on. I am of course referring to Screenshot Saturday, which involves tweeting screenshots with the #ScreenshotSaturday hashtag. Screenshots which I will be critiquing some of every single Tuesday, in Speculating Screenshots.
Different screenshots from different developers, all working on different games. Some are very much a WIP, while other are from titles rapidly approaching release. These tweets do all have one thing they in common though, which is that they feature actual screenshots (or at the very least, mockups), animated or stills. So without further ado…

Kinda looks like the cat’s trying to tell her something, doesn’t it? Chances are it wants to say “get out of this creepy lab while you still can!”. Or not.

FOOD! Cheese, slices of bread, strawberries… who’d have thought a game could look so delicious? Not entirely sure what’s going on though, but still – food!

Highway to the dangerzone! Or something. Nice looking plane, that one. Shame it’s about to get blasted by an incoming missile…

Show of hands, who doesn’t love giant tetraminos, really? Hard to tell what he’s making at this point though, but c’mon, tetraminos! And Pentominos! TETRIS! YEAH!

Kinda reminds me of an old arcade game, albeit with creepy lighting effects and big-headed characters. In a good way, if that’s possible.

Not gonna lie. This one had me at multiplayer metroidvania. That was all I needed. Also, exactly what is that ‘something else’, eh? What indeed.

I smell a stealth game in the making, and a potentially great one at that. I mean, if not for stealthiness, what else could that sound indicator/bar in the upper right corner be, after all? Exactly.

Wow. That looks much too complex for me, but… nice nonetheless. A mirror-based laser puzzler, perhaps?

I’m just gonna assume the ‘snake’ is not that huge dark gray thing. Assume and pray, as that would be both crazy and difficult to control. Then again…

Hey look, cloud gaming! Cloud fighting? Well, aerial combat in any case, and darn stylish at that.

Rigid Force Alpha (@com8com1)
Yay, more side-scrolling action, and with a forecast saying it’ll be… hot! That thing in the lower left corner better not be number of lives available though. I mean, 98?!

Where the heck did that guy crash? Or rather, on which planet, and how is he still alive given the state of his ship? So many questions needing answers!
