For most, weekends means two days off work with some much-needed R&R. But for game developers, it’s also a time during which they get to show off what they’ve been working on. I am of course referring to Screenshot Saturday, which involves tweeting screenshots with the #ScreenshotSaturday hashtag. Screenshots which I will be critiquing some of every single Tuesday, in Speculating Screenshots.
Different screenshots from different developers, all working on different games. Some are very much a WIP, while other are from titles rapidly approaching release. These tweets do all have one thing they in common though, which is that they feature actual screenshots (or at the very least, mockups), animated or stills. So without further ado…

Goodness, that dude looks downright ticked off! Pixellated and ticked off – what a combo, eh? Could it be that he’s waiting for someone to meet him in that office-looking room, or… maybe he’s there to exact vengeance? Or… well, hard to say, really.

That’s one hot looking town. In fact, some might say it’s actually… blazing. Get it? Eh? Right. Anyway, bad jokes aside, Red Goddess is definitely shaping up to be quite the nice looking Unreal Engine 4 game, that’s for sure.

Hmm… “no simulation yet”, eh? Shame, but that’s WIP for ya. That said, I do like how the game utilizes a Chinese setting, as opposed to the typical western stuff found in most other genre entries. Can’t wait to see where this one’s going.

Would ya look at that: another historical(?) strategy title! Not sure where this one takes place, or when, though, but… dev has a point in that history really doesn’t have any use for losers. Whether this particular choice of screenshot is an indication of a steep difficulty remains to be seen (bet it is).

Lenna’s Inception (@tccoxon)
Hardly the most lighthearted pick from this past #ScreenshotSaturday, but a worthy one nonetheless. We mustn’t forget the dead, after all, for while they may be gone, they’re still with us in spirit. Come to think of it, maybe that’s how it is in Lenna’s Inception, albeit in a more… literal sense? Maybe.
