Who needs fancy (and quite frankly, borderline insane) resolutions like 7680×4320 when you can have… wait for it… 64×64? Okay so that may be going too far in the opposite direction for some, but be that as it may, that resolution is still what LOWREZJAM 2020 is all about. That and, needless to say, appreciating the glory of pixel art. Because pixel art is awesome!
I still remember when video games were considered ‘high-res’ if their contents were rendered in absolutely unheard of… 640×480. Ah, those were the days, and in some (very) small way, LOWREZJAM lets me – and others who either remember or simply prefer less advanced visual tech – return to that time. A time long gone, but not forgotten. Right. Anyway, as is often the case with these here game jams, themes are a thing, although the ten to-be-revealed-at-the-start for this one are entirely optional. Use one, use two, use all ten – optional is optional.
The world is your oyster, as long as you stay in your 64×64 cage, of course!
Now, as I’m sure you’re more than a little eager to get started, here are the important dates: the jam takes place between August 1st (Saturday, start of day) and 16th (Sunday, end of day), after which voting will commence on the 17th (start of day), ending on the 24th (end of day). Just remember, 64-by-64 pixels. Aside from that, go nuts; 2D, 3D, 4D, stereo or surround sound – doesn’t matter. The resolution does, however, much like the rules (as stated in the FAQ, on-site). On that note, here’s to playing some interesting games once LOWREZJAM 2020 has run its course!
