It’s highly likely that 2020 will go down as the worst year this side of Y2K for… well, everyone. Which makes finding something to get excited and positive about right now all the more important. Like, oh I don’t know, game jams? 7DRL has already run its course (which means… games to play!) and while Ludum Dare is right around the corner, they both pale in comparison to the annual AdventureJam (for me, anyway), which this year forgoes the judging round in favour of a more relaxed fortnight.
As always, the important stuff first, just so those who are in a hurry can get to whatever is more important to them than my wordy writings (you mean people, you): this year’s AdventureJam will take place between April 21st and May 5th, giving its participants the usual two weeks to get into an adventure-creating groove, hopefully creating an awesome new adventure for everyone to adventure. Adventure. Did I say adventure? Right. Anyway, rules. Rules which, well, haven’t really changed in recent iterations of the jam, save for the lack of a judging round this time. Even so, be sure to read them.
So GET LAMP… GET SWORD… and GET READY… for AdventureJam!
Oh right, themes! There will be themes for AdventureJam 2020! Entirely optional, sure, but themes nevertheless, and all rather relatable, given the current state of affairs across the globe. But again, remember, they are completely optional. And voting. Yeah. There’s voting too, albeit limited to participants, and across five categories no less: Atmosphere, Characterization, Mental Engagement, Emotional Engagement, and Lasting Impression. Voting will end on June 5th, for those with their calendar at the ready. Groovy stuff.
Last but by no means not least, do stop by the official AdventureJam Discord, eh? You won’t regret it.
