In spite of the funding not being quite there yet, The Game Kitchen are still continuing their efforts with The Last Door. As such, the Chapter 3 beta has been made available to Kickstarter backers and premium members, meaning it’s (almost) time to continue this pointy and clicky horror saga!
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of The Last Door, considering the amount of coverage I’ve given their game; the only thing missing is a review of Chapter 2, but it is on my to-do list… just need to find the time! I do have a review of Chapter 1 however if you’re curious as to what the fuss is all about. But that was two chapters ago, with the beta of Chapter 3 (of 4) released.
As was the case with the Chapter 2 beta, both the beginning and ending have been left out. It has after all been made available for testing purposes and pre-launch bug squashing, not so those with access can play through it before everyone else. That said, there are certain benefits to helping The Game Kitchen test it, and while they’re similar to those of the Chapter 2 beta, the idea has been expanded upon for this one.
A total of 24 objects (12 in Chapter 2) are without a description in the beta; don’t freak out – there’s a reason behind the madness. Simply put, they want the community to fill in the blanks, and the best suggestions will be featured in the final product. Brilliant! Oh and if your idea for an object is chosen, your name will be immortalized in the credits, and who doesn’t like the thought of something like that?
“We are quite satisfied with this new chapter in many senses: it keeps a great consistency with the previous narrative, we think we have improved puzzles and the new locations are really appealing”
Time will tell if they’re right come October 18, when the full version of The Last Door: Chapter 3: The Four Witnesses will be available. If you didn’t back the Kickstarter and don’t feel like spending €15 on a premium membership, you’ll have to wait until then to play. As for the rest, I’d recommend heading over to http://thelastdoor.com for some beta testing, and to help get it ready for launch.
If you want to sample the goods before spending any money, Chapter 1 is playable for free, while Chapter 2 carries a pay-what-you-want price tag. So turn the lights off, put on some headphones, crank up the volume and get ready for a horror adventure unlike any other!
