I miss winter, but for now, we’re stuck with summer. This will hopefully soon give way to fall, although not before a bunch of annual game jams have popped up for another groovy outing. Like, say, Yaoi Game Jam 2023, during which games with male-identified characters in queer relationships are made.
Do keep in mind, however, that Yaoi Game Jam 2023 differs a bit from the norm, for while ‘yaoi’ generally refers to romantic relationships between two or more men, for this game jam, that isn’t a requirement – or as the organizers put it, “from platonic to romantic, and everything in-between”. Alternatively, making a game that revolves around the queer male experience is also an option, and seeing how most yaoi games tend to be dating sims, it would be rather refreshing to see some that aren’t. But as always, your game, your rules. As long as they don’t break any for this particular jam.
Speaking of which, this should be common knowledge, but entries that promote bigotry are not allowed. No exceptions. Play nice. Oh, and if you must include uncomfortable subjects, be sure to tag the game accordingly. That also goes for entries with NSFW content. Do not ignore or attempt to downplay the importance of tags.
Last but not least, dates! Yaoi Game Jam 2023 has already begun and will be ending on August 20th, hopefully with many interesting new games. Plenty of time left. Even so, I’d better wrap this up so you can get to jamming. Have fun!
