Dimension hopping. Just typing those two words together is enough to make me dizzy… except we’re talking about a video game here, and a darn groovy-looking one at that. What Lies in the Multiverse seems to be simply overflowing with level-changing shenanigans, and why not throw in plenty of proper puzzling pitfalls while we’re at it?. In other words, welcome to the multiverse.
The ability to leap between worlds in a 2D platformer like this at the press of a button is, quite frankly, a blessing. If the trailer below is any indication, unfortunately, it’s also a bit of a curse. Just a bit. Tiny bit. Nothing so grand as a potentially doomed world or anything. Well, maybe… something exactly like that. But hey, it’s all presented with a lovely coat of pixel art and features quite a colourful cast of characters. So what’s the problem?
A light-hearted but emotionally nuanced story that delves into the darker side of human nature.
Well, there’s this “reality-hopping genius”, Everett, who seems a rather suspicious fella, no matter how you spin it. Does it really matter though, with the promise of a whirlwind adventure unlike any you could even imagine? Maybe not. I mean, it’s a video game, so how about going along for the ride, solving one puzzle after another as you attempt to figure out just What Lies in the Multiverse? Not like there’s much else to do around these parts, so get to it. Go on an adventure. Live a little – who knows what nightmare-inducing discoveries you might end up making? For science. Or something.
What Lies in the Multiverse is available on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, Switch.
