Ascending a deadly tower is one thing, but one that transforms every 24 hours? That’s a bit of a pickle, as then you won’t be able to spend days/weeks/months practising until every obstacle can be surpassed with ease. It doesn’t matter which of the five playable characters you pick either – the tower layout will change. Much like certain aspects of TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity itself when the big 1.0 update arrives!
Each character does come with its own backstory though, so I guess simply mastering one won’t be enough, and even that seems to be quite the challenge. You are after all only able to go on the offensive every 30 seconds, meaning careful platforming and the acquisition of items that reduce cooldown times as well as modify attacks and help protect you are going to be absolutely vital. Oh, and how about branching paths while we’re at it? Seems those able to reach certain heights will be given the option to either pray to an angel or a devil, each sending the player on a different path, going forward. An interesting little twist, for sure.
“Early Access was important for the development of TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity as player feedback influenced many of our design decisions,” said saebashi, Founder, //commentout.
With a playing field that changes daily (in real-world time), leaderboards are a must and fortunately, they’re already part of the game. The same goes for the ability to leave a message behind on the spot where you meet your untimely demise. But while all that sounds quite peachy, how about that 1.0 update, marking its exit from Early Access? As noted earlier, the true ending, achievements, new map gimmicks, enhanced mod features, collection elements, and quite a few other bells and whistles.
Do note, however, that the price tag of TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity will be $11.99 following the update; an increase over its current $9.99.
TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity will be leaving Early Access on Steam and launching on Switch, come June 2, 2022, with an $11.99 price tag.
