Seven years is no age for a roguelike these days if Tales of Maj’Eyal is any indication. Earlier today, not only was the game’s fourth(!) expansion revealed, but fans also got a taste of what’s planned for the 1.6 update. Also in the making, a pay2die microtransaction… for those who feel their character has grown too powerful (wait, what?).
So, what’s coming in 1.6, and of course, Lost Land? Why, only so much that DarkGod – creator of Tales of Maj’Eyal – “likely won’t be able to list everything going in without forgetting many others”. Yeah. We do have a bit of a teaser for both the patch and the expansion (in the form of the below trailer), though: the NPC AI will see vast improvements in just about every aspect, a ton of cosmetics are being added, melee weapons will be rescaled/balanced, ruins, inscriptions, charms are getting overhauled, and much more.
While that’s certainly enough to whet my appetite (for death and destruction), making me more than a little eager to return to the incredibly dangerous lands with yet another summoner, those are just the things in the free update. A trip to locales south of Maj’Eyal, the continent of Tar’Eyal, awaits in the Lost Land expansion, complete with a multitude of additional classes, races, lore, artefacts, and items – a cornucopia of good stuff, basically.
We mustn’t forget about microtransactions either, because like it or not, they’re coming! Nothing that’ll even resemble ‘pay2win’, however: cosmetic packs, community events, vault space – that kind of stuff. And yes, the game does already have ‘community events’, but these are different, in that “whenever somebody buys and triggers one, all players currently online will benefit”. Very cool. Oh, and how about that pay2die thing, eh?
