At first glance, I was more than a little confused regarding SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech‘s ‘punch-card’ thing. But then it hit me: they’re robots, so of course they fight with… punch-cards. Yeah. Steampunk can be a little weird at the best of times, and this roleplaying card game does not seem to be an exception.
In charge of a party of would-be heroes, players will be squaring off against robots, dragons, robot dragons, dragon robots, uncanny creatures of odd design, more robots, and who knows what else? It’s a strange world, to say the least, one in which battles are settled not with fists and guns, but with – as you’ve hopefully caught onto by now – punch cards. And you know what that means: deck building!
Lead a party of aspiring heroes through a beautifully hand-drawn world and intense battles using only your wits and a handful of cards.
There’s still plenty of room for fun and games though, both of which the characters that make up your little party will frequently provide if the trailer below is any indication. As for why they’re doing all this fighting, however… well, I’m not entirely sure. Bet ya there’s some great evil that they’re eager to vanquish. That’s usually how tales such as this go after all, and if it ain’t broke, ya know?
Update: Steam release (date)!
SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech is available on the Switch eShop, carrying a $24.99 price tag. Will be on Steam from May 31.
