At some point, the creator of Tales of Maj’Eyal (ToME) is bound to call it quits, fully satisfied with the content available in-game. But fortunately for fans of the popular roguelike, that day has yet to arrive; unlike that which sees the launch of Ashes of Urh’Rok, an expansion jam-packed with additions.
Even after spending more than thirteen hours roaming its perilous terrain and delving through the dangerous depths of its many dungeons, struggling to survive amidst everything from nasty beasties to undead abominations and evil wizards, I have yet to even scratch the surface of ToME! And now there’s even more to do: new races, classes, zones, more lore, events – basically, more of everything.
Discover monuments to each of the demonic species and noteworthy individuals, showing the place of honor each has among them! Get a glimpse into the culture and daily lives of these sadistic invaders and their brainwashed thralls!
Well sure, get a glimpse, or… (kinda) play as a sadistic invader yourself, with the new Doombringer class! As the name implies, this is the sort who’ll charge headfirst into combat, not caring about the odds or what awaits on the battlefield, so long as there are foes to flay with fiery magic and mighty weaponry.

Or heck, how about summoning a giant minotaur to fight by your side, as the Demonologist? Definitely sounds like a ton (get it?) of fun to me. There’s a catch though: the latter – along with Doomelves: Shalore – like so many other aspects of ToME, need to be unlocked by accomplishing certain in-game feats (aka. achievements).
But that’s the way it’s been forever, and as such, it goes without saying that the expansion also has seven brand new achievements, on top of everything else. Oh, and demonic horns, a cosmetic option, can also be acquired, because, demons, ya know? Also, something something… smashing down walls with one of twenty new artifacts. Provided you can survive long enough to find one, of course.
Tales of Maj’Eyal – Ashes of Urh’Rok is available direct (for donators) and from Steam, where it carries a $3.99 price tag.
