‘The 2023 Spring Thing Festival of Interactive Fiction’ Awaiting Submissions

Sitting on a brand new, finished, and unreleased interactive fiction project that you’re itching to share with the world? Might prove beneficial to participate in The 2023 Spring Thing Festival of Interactive Fiction then! Why? Well…

Simply put, to get it out to as many fans of interactive tales as possible! I mean, to quote the main page, “games have often debuted here that went on to become influential in the IF world or larger indie games scene.”, and can you fault any of that? I certainly can’t, so let’s go over what’s what so you can submit – while there’s still time. Okay, so there’s actually plenty, seeing how the deadline isn’t until March 1, 2023. But still. Best not to dilly-dally too much.

So, any entrants can be nominated for a “Best In Show” ribbon, alongside custom “Audience Award” ribbons, and on top of that… there are even prizes to win! Although do keep in mind that this is by no means a competition, so much as a gathering-of-the-interactive-fiction-community thing. Which should make for a much more chill overall event. In theory.

More details are available here and I do strongly encourage you to go over everything – at least twice. Also, this one bit can not be stressed enough: “Spring Thing does not welcome games or authors promoting hate speech, misogyny, homophobia, or other messages designed to make a whole group of people feel awful about themselves.”

Alright. Good? Great. Now, just in case, here’s the link again, along with a reminder: intent to enter must be made by March 1, 2023. All that said… have fun and good luck!

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
