Channel Surfing Leads to Horror Stories and ‘Nightmare Zapping’

August 11th, 2023 Wraithkal News

A cursed town. A mysterious TV. A puzzle just waiting for someone to solve it – or die trying. See, this is exactly why you shouldn’t watch TV in the late hours. Actually, perhaps not, and I’m not entirely convinced that the time of day has anything to do with how channel surfing in this game quickly leads to… Nightmare Zapping.

Still here? Nightmare Zapping‘s premise, or the fact that it’s obviously a horror title, hasn’t put you off? Fantastic! Well, while it is supposedly a relatively short game, despite featuring not one but two stories, I’d say there still seems to be a rather decent chunk of change to uncover across its many channels. TeeVee.

What awaits you in these channels? A little adventure game? A choose-your-own-story? A romantic date? Nothing can prepare you for the horrors you’re about to experience.

Oh, do pay attention to the content warnings on the game’s page, be it Steam or itch.io, just in case. As I’ve already mentioned, this is very much a horror game, even if it does take place, you know, inside a TV. Doesn’t mean you – or your character – is safe from harm, after all, as anyone familiar with classic old horror movies will gladly tell you.

But, as the old saying goes: nothing ventured, nothing gained. Besides, who knows, perhaps there is a way to experience a bit of Nightmare Zapping and live to tell the tale? So put some batteries in that remote and let’s get started!

Nightmare Zapping is available on Steam and itch.io, for $5.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
