Forget everything you thought you knew about the laws of gravity and architecture because Manifold Garden plays by its own set of rather unique rules. Rules that are, as the developer puts it, noticeably ‘Escher-esque’.
If the above screenshot doesn’t make your head spin, the trailer below should get the job done. Whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on how much you enjoy puzzle games that let you manipulate gravity, ones with geometry that “repeats infinitely in every direction”; a world full of “mind-bending puzzles”, as it were. Way too much for me to wrap my head around, and yet, there’s no denying the appeal of a game such as this.
Manifold Garden is a game that reimagines physics and space.
Your goal? Simple: restore a barren world. Actually accomplishing said goal, however, is likely to be anything but. Which is fine. Puzzle games would be rather dull were they easily mastered, after all, so go ahead – jump right in, and get ready for what is bound to be a truly unique experience, impossible architecture and all.
Manifold Garden is on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, Apple Arcade, Epic Game Store, and will be on Steam come October 20, 2020. Soundtrack? Bandcamp.
