At a Glance: IFComp (aka. The Interactive Fiction Competition) 2019’s More Than Eighty Entries (Time to Vote!)

Welcome to the wonderful world of interactive ficti– oh, you’re already a fan? Well then. Surely you’ve also heard about IFComp, aka. The Interactive Fiction Competition? No? Great! By all means, do continue reading, then, as this year’s entries are awaiting playtesting and – even more importantly – votes!

But first… a round of applause for the 82(!) entries (up from last year’s 77, for anyone wondering). Pretty darn impressive amount no matter how you look at it, and every last one is playable without a price tag or any kind of silly DRM. Oh, and again, don’t forget to vote after playing one or more of these wondrous tales of interactive fictive worlds. Heck, why not go crazy and play… them all?

Actually, no. Don’t. Please don’t. That’d be much too daunting an undertaking, even for the most dedicated reader of IF, gamebooks, etc. Thankfully, the only requirement to have your vote validated is to play a grand total of five entries. Before November 15. Who knows, you might stumble upon a genuine gem along the way. Won’t know unless you give it/them a go.

Just be sure to read up on the rules before you jump in, drooling over all those fancy tales of choice-driven narration. Where? Oh, right here!

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
