Hard to believe that it’s actually been 30 years since Nintendo’s ever-lovely four-color handheld saw the light of day, its popularity pretty much immediately soaring to new heights. So what better way to celebrate its anniversary than with a GBJam, during which brand new games are made in the style of the original GameBoy? You know, four colours, 160×140 resolution, and so on. Good stuff.
Now, while the original hardware was supported for some 14 years, GBJam 7 will only span the course of a single week, ending on the 25th of this month. Yes, that means it’s already well underway, so better get started, eh? The rules are simple enough and are listed right there on the website – I’d still recommend giving them a read though. Just in case. Don’t be a rulebreaker. Oh, and as always, you’re encouraged to use GameBoy-style sound/music. In fact, please do… for that truly authentic experience, ya know?
Ah, almost forgot: if you’re feeling social, GBJam is on both Discord and Twitter. Now get to making lovely GameBoy-ish games. Go on. You know you want to.
