Has the world gone crazy in Lovecraft-inspired shooter, Forgive Me Father, or is the protagonist simply losing their mind, little by little? Probably a little bit of both, and that’s actually a good thing as they’ll need all the help they can get to solve this mystery and survive its deformed, wicked denizens, after all. As such, it is time to… play with madness!
No, I’m not crazy. Well, maybe a little, but nowhere near as much as the protagonist in this dark and gritty shooter – when it’s at its peak, anyway, as madness levels will change dynamically, granting additional power. Oh, and it also directly affects the audio-visual experience, so strap in, because this is gonna be one helluva wild ride.
With its comic book-style visuals and a world full of secrets and side areas to reward intrepid explorers, Forgive Me Father is definitely going for an old-school feel. Need further proof of that? How about… let’s see… no health regen, non-reloading weapons, numerous enemies, and a duel-wielding setup of scripture in one hand, weapons powered by an unknown substance in the other? Yeah. All we need now are enemies that appear as 2D in a 3D environ– oh right, also a thing. Well, there ya go. Awesome.
All of it is kept in a horror mood where truth mixes with madness, and a sense of hopelessness confuses the need to find the answer. Occultism and eternal evil.
Last but not least, how about going in guns(?) blazing, as either a priest or a journalist, complete with their own unique skill development trees? Sounds like Byte Barrel has Lovecrafted (get it?) quite the experience in this one. We’ll have to wait a while to find out, however, as even its Early Access launch is several months away. Patience, virtue… DEMONS!
Forgive Me Father will be haunting players on Steam [Early Access], come October 28, 2021.
