Back in 2016, I covered the reveal of FAR, fingers crossed that it would soon hit digital storefronts. As 2017 came and went, I was starting to lose faith. But then, out of nowhere, just yesterday… FAR – now FAR: Lone Sails – popped up on Steam, finally allowing curious explorers to set sail and experience the journey across, well, “a dried-out seabed” (according to its creator). Groovy stuff.
We won’t simply be able to hit the road and get to truckin’ along without a care in the world, however, as this oddly designed vessel does actually need to be maintained and cared for; perhaps with an upgrade or two? Exactly what happened, why we’re here, and where everyone else went – those are all great questions, and hopefully ones that will be answered over the course of the game. Provided the credits are reached safely, that is.
Explore a desolate dried-out seabed, follow the trails of your people and find relics and buildings, that tell the story of a civilization on the run.
Or maybe you’re simply along for the ride, a journey with no end? Also a possibility, although I’m definitely hoping for something more conclusive. At least it’s a post-apocalyptic setting free of zombies though, most obstacles in your path being environmental hazards and other… roadblocks. Are you ready to set sail and reach for the distant horizon, and will you be more determined to find answers than merely enjoying the journey?
FAR: Lone Sails is available on Steam, GOG.com, and the Humble Store, carrying a $14.99 price tag.
