‘Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller’ Season Finale Released

September 19th, 2013 Wraithkal News

Why people still claim that point ‘n’ click is an abandoned genre is beyond me. Phoenix Online Studios has proved with Cognition that it’s still very much alive and kicking! More importantly, however, the season finale is finally upon us. Here’s to a proper send-off for everyone’s favourite FBI agent!

For those unfamiliar with the series, it’s a detective/adventure series starring one Erica Reed, an FBI agent like so many others… or is she? Well obviously not, why else would I ask? Seriously though, Erica has a rather unique ability, one that allows her to get a glimpse into the past by touching an object! Naturally, this is quite handy for detective work as it enables her to see things that once were; maybe even how the crime in question was committed.

Ain’t a perfect power though, not by any stretch, and unfortunately, it also ends up causing all kinds of trouble. Guess it’s true what they say – with great power… well, I think you know where I’m going with that. Life as Erica Reed isn’t always easy, in fact, it’s often downright dangerous, but hey, that just means it’s one full of suspense and drama! From her early days of chasing a mysterious serial killer across Boston, to the chilling finale where [spoilers deleted], this is likely the closest thing you’ll ever come to playing a genuine mystery novel.

  • Episode 1: The Hangman (October 30, 2012)
  • Episode 2: The Wise Monkey (January 30, 2013)
  • Episode 3: The Oracle (May 16, 2013)
  • Episode 4: The Cain Killer (September 19, 2013)

It took some time, but now the end of this saga is finally upon us. So if you’re in the mood for a point ‘n’ click adventure with a supernatural twist, one that doesn’t take the done-to-death sci-fi route, Cognition might fit the bill. The entire season can be picked up from the Phoenix Online Studios store, GamersGate, Desura (#4 should be en route), and last but not least, GOG.

Since it was greenlit back in June, hopefully, it’ll also be on Steam soon-ish. Until then, there are plenty of alternatives, all of which are DRM-free. Pick one, bust out your credit card and get ready to do some serious detective work!

Update: Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller is now on Steam.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
