‘Appointment With F.E.A.R.’: Save Titan City In This Gamebook Classic Gone Digital

August 27th, 2014 Wraithkal News

Over the past couple of years, Tin Man Games has released a vast amount of digital gamebooks. Some are based on pre-existing (Fighting Fantasy), with a bunch of original creations (Gamebook Adventures) too. While most have been either fantasy or horror, not quite so with this one. Instead, it’s the closest you’ll get to playing a superhero comic book! Groovy.

Are you ready to be the hero that Titan City needs, in this choose-your-own-adventure classic? Maybe you are. Maybe you aren’t. Time will tell. One thing is certain, however: this brand new mobile / PC version of Appointment With F.E.A.R. looks amazing. That’s right, PC. About time those without an Android and/or iOS device got to sample the Fighting Fantasy goods. Who knows, maybe they [Tin Man Games] will make other titles available outside the realm of mobile, should this one do well? (Hint hint.)

Combat is front and center, but not until you’ve spent a few minutes creating your avatar. Beating up bad guys without stylish looks, awesome superpowers, and of course, a name that’ll send chills down the spine of evil-doers would be boring, after all. Once that’s taken care of, it’s time to hit the streets and… well, choose your own adventure, ya know?

As Titan City’s courageous and incorruptible champion of law and order, use your super powers to protect its innocent citizens from the danger and deviousness of a host of super-villains bent on taking over the world!

Just don’t get too caught up in all the excitement of providing justice for everyone in need, because only you can stop the evil organization known as F.E.A.R. (Federation of Euro-American Rebels). Alright so maybe it’s more like you and every other person playing the game, but that’s besides the point! So tell me, hero: are you ready to fight the good fight and (hopefully) save Titan City?

Appointment With F.E.A.R. is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux from Steam, Android (Google Play, Amazon), iOS (iTunes) or direct (Humble Widget – Steam key + Android). Prices vary.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
