‘AdventureJam 2022’ is Almost Upon Us! Create Adventures for Adventurers to Adventure

Summer? Where’s summer? Oh well. We’ll have to make do with another potentially awesome game jam as AdventureJam 2022 is right around the corner! So close I can almost smell the (game) engines working overtime to finish before the deadline (wait, what?).

First up, the important stuff, and not just because of how close to starting this year’s AdventureJam is. Anyway, it’ll take place between June 4th and June 18th, giving its participants the usual two weeks to get into an adventure-creating groove, hopefully creating awesome new adventures for everyone to adventure. Adventure. Did I say adventure? Right. Okay. Rules! Rules which haven’t really changed much, if at all, in recent iterations. Even so, be sure to read them.

Themes? None. The post-jam voting, which spans multiple categories I might add, is in place of a theme. Which is a nice change of pace, honestly. As such, it’ll be interesting to see how participants approach game-making, fully aware that their creation will be judged in categories like ‘Mental Engagement’ and ‘Lasting Impression’, instead of just, you know, ‘is my game better or worse than this other game?’. Speaking of, voting will continue for one month after the jam.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
