There’s Still Plenty Time to Participate In A Game By Its Cover 2015

There’s Still Plenty Time to Participate In A Game By Its Cover 2015

While game jams are a dime a dozen these days, very few come with a unique, worthwhile twist, and even fewer with one as crazy as A Game By Its Cover. Here, participants are tasked with making a game, based on… fake cartridge/disk/box art! No, really. Ah, the possibilities! I mean, the only genuine restriction is ‘any pre-made cover art you can find’, which is hardly a limitation, ya know?

Now, unlike prior outings, A Game By Its Cover 2015 is a jam, rather than a competition, meaning there’ll be no prizes, judging or voting. Also, ‘rules’ are more like ‘guidelines’: games can be made with any engine, in any form (digital and physical alike!), and working in teams is quite alright. Yay, teamwork! Oh right, do remember to link to the cover art your creation is based on when submitting.

That said, I’m sure you’re more than a little eager to get started now, so head over here (flash / mobile), here, here, or heck, anywhere with fake (keyword: fake) cover art, and pick one that really tickles your fancy. What, can’t decide? Spin the RAND↻M FAMICASE then! Deadline is August 16th, 2015 at 11:59 PM, which is in 20 days, so… get to it!

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
