Chances are it won’t be easy, as odds are this journey will be full of danger. All sorts of danger. Anything imaginable, really. That said, no risk, no reward, right? In Never Alone: Foxtales, the reward for Nuna and Fox, as it were, will be to end up saving a friend. Maybe. Who’s to say, really?
Like that of the main game (Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)), in Never Alone: Foxtales, players are put in charge of both Nuna and Fox at the same time, controlling the duo either by switching back and forth or by bringing a friend along for some co-op fun. Having finished the main game, I’d definitely recommend the latter. Not just because it makes for a much more entertaining overall experience, but it also makes certain aspects (ie. puzzles) easier to deal with.
Now, as for the adventure itself, this time the tale revolves around our two friends who, simply put, forget that even the smallest among us deserve respect (wait, what?). As a result of this, they’ll have to fight across rough seas, dealing with fierce creatures while exploring submerged ruins and other unique locales, across three entirely new levels. Needless to say, teamwork is key to their survival, and as such, probably best to not decline the assistance of spirits encountered along the way. Just saying…
Foxtales includes five new unlockable Cultural Insight videos featuring members of the Alaska Native community including the family of Willie Panik Goodwin, Sr., the storyteller whose tale of “The Two Coastal Brothers” inspired the game.
This particular feature, also found in Never Alone, was – in my opinion – an incredible piece of bonus content, and as such, I’m glad to see that this DLC will have more of it. Even if you aren’t a big documentary fan, these Cultural insights will likely still be the most worthwhile collectables in recent times; if nothing else, at least they serve to unlock additional content.
