Racing games can be an absolute blast, whether your favourite be simulation, arcade, or maximum destruction (ie. Carmageddon). At least those are the categories we’ve gotten used to over the last couple of decades. But… what if I were to tell you that someone’s been working on a fast-paced arcade racer with bits and bobs of metroidvania, and that Yucatan will be out this year?
Now, based on available footage (which is not a lot, sadly), I remain slightly puzzled as to how the metroidvania aspect are going to work. I mean, they’re going to enable players to access previously unavailable areas and/or tracks, of course. But how? Will the car be able to fly? Jump? The smashing of boxes is shown in the trailer below, so who knows, maybe that’ll be one of the abilities acquired during the “heart-stopping continuous racing adventure”. Maybe.
The fun doesn’t end there either, online(!) replays and high scores are both a thing as well, hopefully building a sizeable community around heated competitions – or some such. As always, time will tell. Oh, and upside-down driving is a thing in Yucatan, because hey, why not?
Yucatan will be on Steam from September 1, 2019.
