A platformer without platforms and a space dolphin (more or less) as the protagonist. This got really strange, real fast, and we’ve barely scratched the surface of Ynglet.
Simply put, this one looks both incredible and slightly confusing. I’ve watched the trailer below multiple times now, and the main thing that was made perfectly clear was that you are able to bounce off of walls, as well as do some kind of short-distance dash. To leap between these… floating bubbles. In the sky. Such a strange, yet delightful concept. I do like how some sort of ‘railroad’ style transportation is shown off too, in order to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. Where are you going though, and why? Ah, questions!
None of these unknowns dampen my excitement regarding the game though, as it just looks so much fun and relaxing. I guess that goes to show that you don’t always need to know exactly what’s going on in order to gauge the potential entertainment level of a game. An interesting approach.
Certain tidbits are available on the game’s store page, however, like how it features “granular difficulty settings” and players are able to set quick respawn points at any time – so no replaying tricky sections after failing, which I’m sure is something a lot will appreciate. Oh, and the art style. Beautiful game, fluid animations, and a world that truly feels alive, with weird inhabitants and all.
Ynglet is available on Steam and itch.io, carrying a $4.99 price tag.
