It’s been a while since you last set foot in Port Blacksand. A lot has happened since, but one thing remains the same: it is still very much The Port of Peril! Which brings me to… ah yes, the time to claim your destiny is nearly upon you. While it will require you to face sinister forces and deal with treacherous environments, this Fighting Fantasy gamebook is bound to make a genuinely groovy addition to the Fighting Fantasy Classics lineup.
Oh, and also, something about a deadly conspiracy? It sounds like you’re going to need all the help you can get, so make sure you’re on your best behaviour upon seeing familiar faces. City of Thieves and The Forest of Doom might seem like forever ago, but suffice to say, time flows differently here in Allansia. Except when it doesn’t. In more than a few ways, it is an undeniable blessing that you are not entirely at the mercy of Ian Livingstone’s writing and the roll of the die; as much like every other Fighting Fantasy Classics adaptation, this too includes a handful of lovely quality-of-life features.
Free Read mode lets you cheat, while the addition of a map makes it easier to figure out where you have (not) been, and across every playthrough, too! On top of that, how about cover artwork by Iain McCaig, from the limited run hardback and with interior illustrations from Róger Goulart? Or a fully automated adventure sheet?
No fiddling with a pen, paper, or even a pair of dice. Gotta love Tin Man Games‘ Gamebook Adventures engine: all the good stuff from the original and so much new goodness, too. Accessibility, availability, and… may your STAMINA never fail!
The Port of Peril (Fighting Fantasy Classics) will soon be on Steam, Google Play, and iPhone/iPad.
