Oh boy. Super Crush KO‘s protagonist is having a proper bad day: not only has her kitten been kidnapped, but on top of that, there’s also an AI apocalypse to deal with. And deal with it she shall, smacking, launching, juggling, running and gunning every last robot until peace has been recovered and peace restored. No rest for the wicked, as they say.
Now, I’ve played quite a few run ‘n gun indie games over the years, and while my personal favorite is still Bleed (review), Super Crush KO does still look like an absolute blast. It’s also not a pure entry in that genre, seeing how players will be able to brawl like a true badass too. So maybe we need a new genre for such games? Hard to say. Maybe not. We do need more in this yet-to-be-named genre, though.
Super Crush KO is a fast-paced brawler set in a vibrant, near-future city. Zip up your favourite neon jacket and combo your way through swarms of deadly robots to save your kidnapped kitten and, while you’re at it, save humanity from an AI apocalypse.
Anyway, needless to say, kicking you-know-what and taking names is on the menu, with a promise of fast-paced action “that seamlessly blends run n’ gun action and intense beat-em-up combat”, all while looking nice and colorful without an abundance of screen clutter (based on the trailer below). So far so good, but what’ll likely keep most engaged – especially once the credits have rolled on the story – is the online leaderboards and ranking systems. Why settle for less than an S-rank, after all?
Super Crush KO will be on Steam and Switch in 2019.
