With the number of wars in the year 30XX and – as is the case with Super Crome: Bullet Purgatory – 40XX, it’s almost a relief to think how I will be long gone by then. But only almost, as I do like some fast-paced old-school bullet hell, and this one certainly seems like a worthwhile genre entry, ship levelling and all.
Quite fortunate that the game will be out next year then, even if it is scheduled for a full year in Early Access. Still very playable (or it should be, at least) though, in spite of only featuring the game’s arcade mode… at first. As development progresses, more bosses and enemies will be added, alongside a story mode, special weapons, additional upgrades, and – hell, probably much more. A lot can happen in twelve months after all.
As mankind’s only hope for survival, Crome must eliminate dozens of waves of cosmic beasts and ships to escape the dark abyss. Thankfully, his sleek ship comes equipped with devastating weapons and a precise dashing ability; a perfect combination for slaying alien scum.
Now, regarding exactly how players level up, well, I haven’t the foggiest. Aside from “by killing enemies” that is, as fallen foes might drop power-ups like in R-Type, or perhaps there will be some complex XP system? I’m sure we’ll know more about this retro-inspired little action title as its Early Access launch approaches. More details are, as always, available on the Super Crome: Bullet Purgatory website.
Super Crome: Bullet Purgatory [Early Access] will be available on Steam, come Q1 2019.
