This time the spotlight will be shining on Magbot, a Metroidvania in space that’ll challenge your brain more than your reflexes. Let’s help it escape the cold emptiness of Greenlight limbo, eh?
Thirty Thousand colonists set off on a journey across the stars.
A cryogenically frozen trip that would take hundreds of years while robot caretakers and AI systems watched over them.
Except something went terribly wrong.
Now almost six hundred years late, the ship is falling apart and the lives of the colonists are in danger.
Sounds like it brings just the right amount of despair for my liking. Or maybe a little too much? Hard to say. One thing is certain though: the focus on puzzles over combat is a welcome change from the norm, as the Metroidvania genre generally seems to be 60-65% action, leaving a meagre 35-40% for brainteasers. That’s not to say Magbot is a pacifistic tale as boss battles are also part of the equation, and I highly doubt you’ll be able to poke them to death with the power of your mind. Magbot’s (the character) abilities may seem to be of a mystical nature, but they are in fact mechanical, rather than, well, psychic – in spite of him being able to push objects from afar and such. At least I think that’s the case.
So riddle me this, dear reader: why is Magbot still struggling to get through Greenlight? It’s not out just yet, save for early/incomplete builds. Even so, how about visiting its Greenlight page and handing over a ‘yes’ if you like what you see? Remember, your vote matters!
