This time the spotlight will be shining on Fancy Skulls, an odd and nicely randomized first-person shooter… with permadeath! Let’s see if we can’t help it escape the cold emptiness of Greenlight limbo.
With random generation, the game is different every time you play it. There are no saves, which means that when you die, you will start over from the beginning. With permadeath implemented, each combat scenario becomes higher tensioned and each victory, more satisfying.
Well darn. A first-person roguelike shooter, and with an incredibly odd enemy design to boot. Can’t have too many of those, that’s for sure! While I’ve seen (and played) many quirky games over the years, not one featured such creepy-looking bad guys, and they certainly didn’t fall apart like those in Fancy Skulls either. Talk about eerie. Recommendation: blast the crap out of everything that moves – no time to stop and think. Although if Lady Luck is not on your side, well, crap. That basic pea shooter of a gun you start with won’t get you far after all. Better hope a ray gun, shotgun or something else entirely becomes available… because this game is anything but easy! It is currently in the alpha stage of development, however, meaning that everything is subject to change – including the visuals. That said, I actually find its look rather fitting. Kinda like that rug in the room of a certain movie, it ties everything together.
So riddle me this, dear reader: why is Fancy Skulls still struggling to get through Greenlight? It’s not out just yet, but the alpha release did get an update not six days ago, so lack of availability couldn’t be the reason. If you haven’t done so already, might I recommend visiting its Greenlight page and handing over a ‘yes’, if you like what you see? Remember, your vote matters!
Fancy Skulls [alpha] is available for Windows, Mac, and Ouya from the official website, priced at $6 and without DRM.
