[Update: Greenlit] Stuck In Greenlight Limbo: ‘Cute Things Dying Violently’

September 6th, 2013 Wraithkal Feature

This time the spotlight will be shining on Cute Things Dying Violently, an incredibly violent puzzle game in which, well, cute things die violently! Seriously though, your job is actually to get them to the exit, past buzzsaws, lightning beams, spikes and more. Let’s see if we can’t help it escape the cold emptiness of Greenlight limbo.

Flick these hapless little buggers around to get them safely out of each level! Dodge all sorts of lethal goodies like spikes, buzzsaws, and fire, and use a variety of wacky items to pull it off.

Well, you could do that, or massacre the lot! Believe me, after bouncing them around the level for a while without reaching the exit, or progressing even slightly, throwing them directly onto spikes suddenly doesn’t seem like such an evil action. Although if you actually want to beat the game, timing and precision will be key as you place springs strategically and mess around with coloured blocks to reach the exit… after which another even more dangerous level begins! I hear there’s even a level editor in there somewhere, allowing players to try their own hand at crafting as hazardous an environment as humanly possible.

So riddle me this, dear reader: why is Cute Things Dying Violently still struggling to get through Greenlight? It’s been out for a while (since July 2012), so lack of availability is certainly not the reason. If you haven’t done so already, might I recommend visiting its Greenlight page and handing over a ‘yes’, if you like what you see? Remember: your vote matters!

Cute Things Dying Violently is available for Windows from Desura, priced at $2.99 / €2.49 / £1.99 and without any DRM.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
