[Update: Greenlit] Stuck In Greenlight Limbo: ‘Coated’

[Update: Greenlit] Stuck In Greenlight Limbo: ‘Coated’

This time the spotlight will be shining on Coated, which is quite the colorful puzzler. Let’s see if we can’t help it escape the cold emptiness of Greenlight limbo, eh?

Enjoy the game’s different mechanics of hiding from enemies and solving puzzles. Everything in Coated’s world depends on colors. You can coat yourself and merge, multiply & subtract colors to get a certain color. You can interact with most of the environment’s objects by colors too. In a word, in Coated’s world you have to Coat, Hide, survive & solve with colors.

In case you missed it somehow in the above paragraph, color… is everything in Coated. Everything. Now, having played the beta almost a year ago to date, like last week’s limbo pick, I’m quite surprised that this one hasn’t made it through either. The premise is certainly original and clever enough to warrant a ‘yes’ vote, I’d say, as the game features puzzles that rely on a clever mix of platforming and color manipulation, letting ya empty paint buckets over the protagonist and other fun stuff. Want to go through a purple door? Or maybe pass by a purple enemy? Won’t happen unless you’re purple! Better get… Coated.

So riddle me this, dear reader: why is Coated still struggling to get through Greenlight? It’s available from Desura (Windows, Mac, Linux) for $4.99, so it’s not like you’d be voting on an unfinished project here. As such, might I recommend visiting its Greenlight page and handing over a ‘yes’, if you like what you see? Remember, your vote matters!

Wraithkal

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
