Ever wanted to learn Godot, maybe try your hand at making something with it over the course of a weekend? Then STOP WAITING FOR GODOT and… you know, set aside this upcoming weekend for some game jamming awesomeness!
Oh right, should probably mention that this one’s hosted by Terry Cavanagh. You might be familiar with his creations: VVVVVV, Super Hexagon, and Dicey Dungeons, to name but a few. Even so, he’s never worked with Godot, which is why you’re currently reading about an upcoming jam revolving around said engine. Did I mention how it’s both free and open-source, yet incredibly powerful?
So, basically: I thought next weekend might be a good time to finally sit down and try to learn Godot. Why don’t you join me?
New to Godot? Be sure to check the jam page‘s Where do I start? section for help with, well, getting started. Just remember, above all else, to keep it simple (and have fun). There’s a reason most people treat game jams as the means for getting a project started rather than actually completing every aspect, squashing every bug, and so on. That reason is, simply put, time. You only have so much of it, even for the rare ones that span multiple months, but in this case… you have a weekend. So make the most of it, although at the same time, don’t overdo it.
There’ll be no judging at the end of STOP WAITING FOR GODOT as it is not to be treated as a competition, so much as a Godot learning experience. Time will fly by once you get started, and that’s fine. As long as you’re having fun, learning new stuff, maybe even making something with that new stuff. Ya know?
STOP WAITING FOR GODOT runs from September 3rd, 2021 to September 6th, 2021.
