Speculating Screenshots (6th August 2016)

Speculating Screenshots (6th August 2016)

For most, weekends means two days off work with some much-needed R&R. But for game developers, it’s also a time during which they get to show off what they’ve been working on. I am of course referring to Screenshot Saturday, which involves tweeting screenshots with the #ScreenshotSaturday hashtag. Screenshots which I will be critiquing some of every single Tuesday, in Speculating Screenshots.

Different screenshots from different developers, all working on different games. Some are very much a WIP, while other are from titles rapidly approaching release. These tweets do all have one thing they in common though, which is that they feature actual screenshots (or at the very least, mockups), animated or stills.

Vaporizer Mode. Touching the sides, in this case, is not good. #screenshotsaturday pic.twitter.com/oZrcZRxwHs

“Vaporizer Mode”? Sounds dangerous. I LIKE IT!

Honestly, I’d (probably) cheese it too. Totally get where he / she / it is coming from with that.

That… is one odd sandcastle. Very odd.

Being continuously cloned to destroy droids isn't so bad when the scenery is calming. #screenshotsaturday #indiedev pic.twitter.com/zfHXqUI1tA

I agree with approximately a third of that statement.

real evil is out there #anightinthewoods #gamedev #indiedev #indiegames #screenshotsaturday better stay hidden… pic.twitter.com/x1WrVj4cAt

Real evil needs to burn then. Burn, I say. Burn!

Scene: Sofya just told a bad joke, and the cat’s acting slightly amused with a “well how about that!” pose. I think.

Already more exciting than the real deal.

“Still… alive.”? HOW?!

Oh man, so much multiplication, and then… wait, “call self”? Alrighty then.

The one zombie in our game. He's on the phone with his agent. #screenshotsaturday #indiegames #gamedev pic.twitter.com/7QRGxz5ziH

Something tells me he’s gonna need more than his agent to get out of that one.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
