What do a magical Fairy, a sensitive Sasquatch, and a bold Velociraptor all have in common? Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance, that’s what, and you better believe this dating sim is like a blast from the not-so-distant past, complete with teen drama, cryptids, and cassette tapes. Ah, the ’90s.
If there’s a better way for Stella to spend her last year in high school than with a bunch of hot cryptid teens, then I want no part of it. Oh, don’t give me that “what?!” look. You read the title (and the opening paragraph, or so one might hope), so there’s no way that declaration is surprising. Anyway, it’s time for our protagonist to make friends, try her darndest to fit in, and maybe, just maybe, find romance. If you play your cards right, that is.
Who do you want to laugh and cry with? Who do you want to open up to? And who do you want to share your last days of high school with?
See, while Day, Taylor, and Robert might seem like a lighthearted bunch at first glance, get to know them a bit and you’ll realize they all struggle with something. Perhaps the super-power provided by your status as the protagonist is just the thing needed to navigate the treacherous waters of a spooky ex-girlfriend, band drama, and a certain someone’s troubled past. Who’s phone is going to ring, who you have a sleepover with, who gets some cheering up during the holidays, and many other choices determine which cryptid you end up with, in this visual novel/dating sim.
So, who’s ready for a trip back to 1997?
Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance is available on Steam ($13.99) and itch.io ($13.95).
