Welcome to hell. Bullet hell. Think you’re a hot-shot pilot, able to dodge just about anything a game might throw at you, threading the needle time and time again as bullets and explosions fill the screen? Oh, really? Well, then you’ll definitely want to take a look at Rangok Skies.
War may be hell, but that’s fine as long as it’s bullet hell, right? Right? RIGHT? Ahem. Okay. Fine. Enough with the wisecracking. There’s serious stuff to get to after all, like… leaderboards! A handful of unique pilots! Oh! Oh! Story mode! Something about vampires, if I’m not mistaken.
In case you, like me, feel that this is a genre that feels off when played horizontally, worry not, for this entry supports ‘turning your monitor vertically for the full arcade experience’. Which is just awesome. Or how about the ability to bring a friend with its local co-op mode, five intense stages, as well as Auto-Shoot Accuracy (holding down the fire button slows your ship for more precise movements)?
I doubt this is going to be a walk in the park, what with its three lives and three credits limit, but this isn’t exactly a one-and-done genre, so much as one that thrives on how practice makes perfect. Sooner or later you’ll have mastered every section of every level, at which point the Rangok Skies will be clear once more. Maybe.
Rangok Skies is available on Steam, carrying a $19.99 price tag.
