It’s been a great year for fans of games with LGBTQ+ content, with the likes of O2A2 VN Jam 2023 ~ Queer Edition ~, Touhou Pride Game Jam 5, and Trans Representation Jam 2023 resulting in genuinely groovy new titles… and the year is still young! Like, say, a certain jam that encourages participants to explore identity, sexuality, and related topics, a jam which recently announced its eighth iteration: Rainbow Jam 2023!
Rainbow Game Jam encourages participants to create games exploring and celebrating identity, gender, sexuality, sex, life, Intersectionality, being queer, yourself and your community, pride, protests, and love!
Now, both theme and diversifiers won’t be revealed until its starting date is nearer, as that’s just how game jams work. Otherwise, what would the point be in having a start and end date? That said, knowing LGBTQ+ content is on the menu does enable you to somewhat plan/prepare, form teams (perhaps on its Discord), and all that good stuff. There aren’t any engine restrictions either, although a few rather important things should certainly be noted: discriminatory content based on gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, religion, etc. will not be accepted. In other words, play nice.
All set? Ready to level up with pride and rainbows? Awesome, because we’re only a month and some from Rainbow Jam 2023, and much like fall, the start of the jam will be here before you know it.
