Pour LGBT Into Game Making With ‘Rainbow Jam 2022’

Pour LGBT Into Game Making With ‘Rainbow Jam 2022’

Is it summer where you are? Winter? Fall? Perhaps even spring? Well, it doesn’t really matter as rainbows are a year-round thing, even if the kind focused on during Rainbow Jam 2022 revolves more around pride than weather conditions. It is after all a two-week game jam with a focus on exploring and celebrating identity, gender, sexuality, being queer, pride, love, and related themes. In other words, something truly awesome!

Now, the theme for the jam won’t be revealed until its starting date is nearer, as that’s how game jams work – otherwise, what would the point be in having a start and end date for it? That said, knowing that LGBT+ content is on the menu for the jam does kinda enable you to plan/prepare, form teams (perhaps on the Rainbow Jam Discord?), and all that good stuff. There aren’t any engine restrictions or other such nonsense either, although a few rather important things should be noted: discriminatory content based on gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, religion, etc. will not be accepted. Basically, play nice and your submission should be okay.

Games are for everyone, and anyone can create games!

Got all that? Awesome. Get ready then, because we’re only about a month away from Rainbow Jam 2022 – the seventh of its kind – and like the lifespan of the jam itself, those weeks are likely to fly by. Rainbows!

Rainbow Jam 2022 is set to run from August 27th, 2022 to September 12th, 2022.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
