There are quite a few recurring LGBTQ+ game jams, and yet, I say there’s plenty of room for more. Especially some that don’t restrict the content of submissions to one particular sexuality/identity (although those jams are awesome, too). Some, like… Queer Joy Jam 2024.
What, rules? Oh, there are certainly a few, of which I feel two in particular can not be stressed enough: bigotry and AI-generated content, of any kind, are grounds for disqualification. To quote the organizer, “This is a jam to celebrate queer identity as a loving embrace.”. In other words, Queer Joy Jam 2024 has neither room nor tolerance for bad apples.
How about the theme, then? Game jams tend to have that… only, this one doesn’t. Well, I guess “queer joy” is kinda like a theme, in a sense. Exactly what that might mean is up to you. I mean, the go-to for many is bound to be a romantic tale, of some sort, but it doesn’t take a lot of thinking outside the box to come up with alternatives. (Hint: a handful of such can be found, unsurprisingly, on the jam page.)
