Alright. It’s that glorious time of year again! The time… wait, Pride Month is still a few months away? Huh. Well, on a related note: much like around this time last year, a return of the genuinely grand and groovy Queer Games Bundle was recently announced, and submissions are officially open for Queer Games Bundle 2024!
For those unfamiliar with Queer Games Bundle (2023 version), it’s a collaborative initiative created to support as many artists/game devs/content creators who identify as queer (and majority queer teams) as possible, shifting the focus from the project to those behind it. In other words, queer content is not required for submissions, as the bundle is about creators who identify as queer rather than their creations.
Quite a lovely change from how most bundles of a similar nature handle things, as those tend to limit participants to a single aspect of the spectrum and/or focus exclusively on game content instead of those that made them.
We are trying to be inclusive but you can submit anything as long as it is something people can enjoy, this could be a game, music, zines, music, books, or anything else such as a tool or art assets.
Time for the nitty-gritty: Queer Games Bundle 2024 is scheduled to run the month of June (and a bite of July) on itch.io, and “Funds are distributed equally between all participants who opt-in to receiving funding from the bundle.”. One thing to keep in mind, as this is a pretty significant change: this year’s bundle will feature no less than three separate funding tiers (below): Please double and triple check to confirm before opting into one.
- Level 3, full funding: This is the single level from years past, now for people new to the bundle or with new content. People submitting all the same content again, a demo, or people submitting microgames or one-page games, should not choose this level. As an example only to show the math, this user may earn $300.
- Level 2, ⅔ (two thirds) funding: This is one step down, letting users opt in based on their financial situation and what they’re submitting. People submitting demos, multiple microgames, or multiple one-page games may choose this level. People submitting all the same content for a third or fourth time should not choose this level. As an example only to show the math, this user may earn $200.
- Level 1, ⅓ (one third) funding: This is the basic funding level. Everyone is eligible for this level, no matter what. As an example only to show the math, this user may earn $100.
Still interested? Awesome! The submission deadline is May 1, so if you believe this might be of interest to you… what are you waiting for? Oh, and might I ask you to help get the word out about the bundle, follow the organizer(s) on social media, or… well… doing both would be so cool! I mean, pretty please?
