I don’t know what it is with monarch and their crazy crusade to force their daughters into marriage, rather than letting them choose – you know, like normal human beings. Although in Pig Eat Ball, king Cake’s daughter, princess Bow, is… well, not human, as you can surely tell from her father’s name. Oh, and she’s also not interested in an arranged marriage. Smart girl. So, time to embark on a relentless mix of eating and barfing, to thwart the king’s plans!
Here’s the thing though: princess Bow’s little scheme to thwart her father’s plans somehow ends up putting her smack in the middle of a “nefarious plot that threatens all life aboard the Space Station Kingdom”. Uh-oh. Now time is doubly of the essence, as she not only has to win that silly marriage contest (wait, what?) and figure out how to save her home from pesky evildoers.
Doing either, and both even more so will require a fair amount of travelling too, the princess visiting Sushi Gardens and the Astro Farm, among others, as she goes along, barfing on everything that moves. No really. Just watch the trailer and it’ll make perfect sense. In a really strange, twisted way, but it will make sense.
I suspect there will come a time when you’ll want to be absolutely massive too, by chowing down like there’s no tomorrow, for dealing with them huge boss encounters. Like the Accordion Centipede. Totally a thing in this game. Pig Eat Ball is definitely among the absolutely strangest games I’ve seen in quite some time. Ah, and let’s not forget about the powerups – or disguises rather – as these will surely prove beneficial too, provided you remember to swap accordingly as each carries both a pro and a con. Tricky.
Or how about some local multiplayer, online leaderboards, and even a level editor? Plenty to eat, see, barf, do, explode, punch, bump into, and destroy, I’d say, and with a lovely pixellated art style serving as icing on the cake. Come to think of it, maybe someone should put king Cake on icing for a while?
Pig Eat Ball is available on Steam, itch.io, and PlayStation 4, carrying a $14.99 price tag.
