What do Max, Buster, Lucky, and Sparky have in common? They’re all perfectly normal dog names. EO-43 – One Dog Story protagonist’s designation, on the other hand, not so much. Let’s call him Dog instead. Dog. A dog named Dog, in One Dog Story. Anyway, it’s time for this lil’ fella to figure out what triggered a recent disaster in his underground “residence”, as well as… his true identity.
Inspired by the likes of Cave Story and Shovel Knight, One Dog Story is a game of exploration, self-discovery, kicking ass and taking names; perhaps even a bit of jetpack joyriding with a splish and a splash. There’ll be plenty of time to chit-chat too, although some conversations may lead to fierce bouts to the death. No really. Just watch. And fight. Fiercely. Or chill with some light puzzle-solving instead.
Sounds exciting, right? Here’s to hoping it will be, but first, there’s the tiny matter of getting the darn thing crowdfunded, which means raising a grand total of $30,000 on Kickstarter, before February 12. That’s approximately 25 days from now, and at the time of writing, $336 has been pledged, meaning there’s still plenty of time and a ways to go. So don’t give up hope just yet, eh? Something something… underdog.
Now, while pledging $9 will get you a copy of the game, which is cool and all, cranking it up to $14 instead adds things like beta access while going above and beyond with $250 gets ya the soundtrack, a t-shirt, and other goodies. There’s even a $5000 tier, although I have my doubts as to whether anyone will put in that much support. Would help the campaign tremendously, sure, but it is a lot of money.
As far as release date and platforms go, BigWay Games is looking at launching on Windows, OS X, Linux and potentially consoles too, come November 2016. Groovy. So let’s get One Dog Story kickstarted and through Greenlight, eh?
