Have you ever played a visual novel? A piece of interactive fiction, be it a Twine game, an ink creation, or something else entirely? Both? Sweet! You probably haven’t played an interactive storybook yet though, but even if you have, I bet it wasn’t a slice of foodie life story, like, say Omurice Next Time.
When our story begins, Finn and Gray have been married for five years, living a simple, peaceful life. Which suits them just fine. Drama is for other couples. Hopes, dreams, slight awkwardness, and embarrassing yet heartfelt moments? Ah, now see, those are most certainly all on the menu, because what is your happily ever after without those? All of them. Yes, even the awkwardness and embarrassing moments. It’s a complete package deal, no pick-and-choose alternative, and that seems to be just how Omurice Next Time‘s husband and husband protagonist couple prefers it.
Finn opens a sweets shop, and Gray is a truck driver. They don’t have much, but luckily there is always food on the table. No matter what happens, they got each other.
So, if you’re in the mood for something chill, sweet, and perhaps a bit silly at times, Omurice Next Time just might be what Doctor Wholesome prescribed. At least, based on the trailer below, as I have yet to experience this genuinely groovy-looking game myself. Besides, can you truly resist the urge to take a peek behind the scenes, as it were, for a glimpse at what Finn and Gray get up to while waiting for you to play the game? Of course, you can’t!
Omurice Next Time is available on itch.io for $4.99.
